Lack of enough boreholes at Sazie affecting productivity and livelihoods

Women at Sazie, a community in the Tabiasi Electoral Area, Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District have told Info Radio that the lack of enough boreholes is affecting productivity and livelihoods, especially among women in the community.

Speaking in an interview with Info Radio at the community, Edith Issifu said the entire population of over 1000 residents of the community depends on a single for their water needs.

She noted that the borehole is far from some part of the community, affecting people, especially women who live in that part of the community when it comes to accessing water.

She lamented that they spend productive hours on long queues in order to fetch water their domestic and other activities which she observed, lowers productivity and consequently affects their livelihoods.

“Before you move up there to fetch water, two or three times, you would automatically be late for the farm’s work,” she observed.

She was speaking on Friday in the community at a community level engagement with Info Radio News.

Pogziema Vincent said the lack of adequate water sources also affects the rearing of livestock in the community as the animals, especially ruminants find it hard getting water to drink.

She indicated that most times, their animals stray in search of water leading to financial losses and poor livelihoods, in the end.

She said if there were enough boreholes, they could fetch water for their animals at home.

The residents thus appealed to the government to provide them with adequate water sources.
