Mr Timothy N-beenada, the Assembly Member for Kunduugu Electoral area in the Wa East District, has bemoaned the bad state of roads in the electoral area which is affecting access to basic services such as healthcare.
He said the electoral area has communities that are distant from the healthcare access point but the roads linking those communities to facilities are deplorable, impeding access to such services.
Mr N-beenada, also the Presiding Member of the Wa East District Assembly, said this in an interview with Info Radio in Wa. He said the road from Kunyebeng to Kunduugu for instance is not good but said some of the roads have been awarded to a contractor for work to be done on them.
“I spoke with the District Chief Executive (DCE) yesterday, and he informed me that they have awarded the contract for the road from Bulenga to Kunyebeng to a contractor. One of the unit committee members called me to report that the contractor has arrived in Kunduugu today. Hopefully, this means that the road will finally be fixed, as the road from Kunduugu to Kunyebeng is in very poor condition.”
He said Kunduugu has a market and traders from different places including Wa attend and wondered why the road is still in that bad shape.
“Last year, around this time, vehicles from Wa and other areas were unable to reach Kunduugu market due to the poor condition of the road. They had to stop at Bufiama instead. Kunduugu has a daily market, and if vehicles cannot transport traders to the market, it indicates a serious problem with the road,” Mr N-beenada stated.
He, however, expressed hope that the government’s road sector intervention, with the provision of the machines under the District Roads Improvement Project, DRIP would help reduce the road sector challenges in the district.
