The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Konchuri Basic School in the Jirapa Municipality has decried the lack of classrooms for the Junior High School in the community.
It said the JHS one to three students sit in a dilapidated building constructed by the community to temporarily host the children while they wait for the government intervention.
Mr Charles Anatakang, the PTA Chairman of the school, raised the concern in an interview with Info Radio in the community.
He explained that the government constructed the Kindergarten block for the community while a philanthropist provided the primary one to six classrooms.
He, thus, appealed to benevolent organizations and individuals as well as the government to come to their aid by providing the JHS block for the community to save the children from imminent disaster as the current structure they sit in can collapse at any time.
Mr Anatakang indicated that the school is also challenged with the lack of teacher’s accommodation and source of potable water for the school children during classes’ hours. He said that is affecting effective teaching and learning in the school.
Meanwhile, the Jirapa District Director of Education, Mr Huudu Kunaateh, said the directorate is aware of the challenge and is taking steps to provide a befitting classroom block for the school.
