Hon. Tamimu Issah, the Assembly Member of the Kogri Electoral Area in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West region, has appealed to the government, benevolent individuals, groups, and organizations to help renovate the Kogri M/A primary school.

Hon. Tamimu, in an interview with Info News, said the dilapidated classroom block starts from class one to six including the office for the headteacher.

Mr Tamimu indicated that the school currently has 313 children, and that their lives were at risk due to the dilapidated nature of the structure that accommodates them.

The Assemblyman said the school structure was built in the 90s and since then it has not seen any renovation.

He added that the structure needed to be renovated and reroofed to protect life and property and to ensure an effective and quality learning and teaching environment.

According to him, the children did not feel safe anytime it rained, adding that they tried moving from one corner to the other just to escape from the rain as a result of the leaking roof.

Mr Tamimu said due to roof leaks, teachers found it difficult to keep their Teaching and Learning materials (TLMs) in their offices and that it was impacting negatively on academic performance.

The Assemblyman described the classroom block as deplorable and a threat to the lives and property of the school children and teachers.

Hon. Tamimu Issah also mentioned that most of the school pupils are moving to different schools in the Municipality due to the deplorable nature of their school.

On behalf of the people of the Kogri electoral area, the Assemblyman made a passionate appeal to all philanthropists and individuals who can help them to renovate the classroom block so that the pupils will learn under decent conditions for academic excellence.

He also noted that appeals to authorities at the Jirapa Municipal Assembly were yet to receive positive responses.

The Assemblyman called for assistance from government through the Jirapa Municipal Assembly to provide desk for the school children.

According to him, pupils lie on crack cemented floor with their bellies to take lessons whiles others use improvised blocks and stones as seats.
