Know your Council of State member representative

Mr Michael Kwame Mumuni, the Upper West Regional First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been elected to represent the region at the Council of State.


Mr Mumuni won the election against ten other contestants after he garnered eight out of 22 valid votes in the election held on Monday, February 11, 2025.


The other contestants were  Mohammed Ahmed, Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye, Ibrahim Yakubu Kanda, and Derbaa Muinfo David, who each had no vote; Alhaji Dauda Yahaya, Rayan Yussif, Minimaana Saaka Al-Moktar, and Kuoro Abu Diaka, who each had a vote.

The rest were Emmanuel Kudi Mwinilayuor, three votes and Dimah Gbene Iddrisu John who had seven votes.


Speaking in an interview with Info Radio, Mr Mumuni expressed commitment to facilitating development interventions to the region. He said road infrastructure and irrigation facilities would be his major priorities within his four-year tenure.


“I will go and lobby for development for the Upper West Region, my priority is to look at the roads here, that will be my first priority, and to also look at dams (construction)”, he stated.


Mr Mumuni hails from the Jirapa Constituency in the Upper West Region. He had served on the NDC Wa Central Constituency executive committee and was a two-times Upper West Regional co-opted executive member of the party.


Mr Mumuni contested and won the Upper West Regional first Vice chairman of the NDC in 2018, a position he retained till date after he was reelected in 2022.


Mr Daniel Kwatia-Larbi, the Deputy Upper West Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), supervised the election.
