Residents of Kantu in the Wa West District are calling on the district assembly and non-governmental organizations to establish a Community-based Health Planning Service (CHPS) facility in their community.

According to Madam Batierenyine Abena, a Community Health Volunteer, the community has been without a primary healthcare facility for years, forcing residents to travel long distances to access healthcare.

"Pregnant women, in particular, are vulnerable as they are unable to attend antenatal care, especially during the rainy season when the community is cut off from Wechiau," Madam Batierenyine said.

She noted that the lack of a healthcare facility has led to a high rate of self-medication among residents, which can have serious health consequences.

Madam Batierenyine, who has worked as a Health Volunteer in the community for 20 years, expressed frustration at the lack of progress in addressing the community's healthcare needs.

"We have been appealing to the district assembly and NGOs for years, but nothing has been done. We are calling on them to take immediate action to address our healthcare needs," she said.
