Residents of Kandige in the Kulkpong Electoral Area of the Wa East District have voiced their frustration over the severe lack of potable water in the community.
Despite having four boreholes, residents say none functions properly, forcing them to waste valuable time queuing for water — only to face frequent breakdowns.
In an interview with Info Radio, the residents said they are often left with no choice but to rely on small wells they have dug at a nearby stream for domestic use — a situation they say poses serious health risks.
Women and girls in the community are particularly affected by the water crisis, with some saying the wells they dug at the stream are running dry.
Madam Ajoa Mwini, an elderly woman in the community, shared the challenges they face.
"We struggle a lot to dig wells at the stream, but cattle often come and destroy them. The older women are suffering too much. We are appealing to kind-hearted individuals and organizations to help us," she said.
Men in the community also expressed their disappointment over the lack of functional boreholes, with some admitting that they have resorted to drinking from the stream.
Residents are now calling on the government and benevolent organizations to come to their aid and provide a lasting solution to the water crisis in Kandige.
