The Assembly Member for Kalsegra in the Nadowli Kaleo District, Mr Boniface Kpan, has called on the government to address pressing issues in the community, including poor infrastructure, lack of water supply, and unemployment among the youth.
In an Interview with Info Radio, Mr Kpan outlined the challenges facing his electoral area and expressed hope that the new government would step in to resolve them.
He highlighted recent improvements in the community healthcare facility, thanks to the support of the Member of Parliament (MP), Anthony Mwinkara Suma. He revealed that the facility now has two delivery beds—one provided by the MP and the other by Azuma Resources Ghana Limited.
Mr Kpan also mentioned plans to renovate the clinic and said some community members have encouraged them to draft a budget for the project.
"We are also working on building a new washroom at the clinic," he added, noting that 100 bags of cement have already been secured for the construction. However, work has stalled due to issues around securing the land where the clinic is located.
With most of the population in Kalsegra involved in farming, Mr Kpan stressed the importance of reconstructing the community dam to support dry-season farming and provide water for livestock.
"I've spoken to the MP and other leaders about reconstructing the dam because it will boost farming activities and improve livelihoods," he said.
Electricity remains a major challenge for the people of Kalsegra. The Assembly Member noted that while the main roadside areas have lights, many interior communities remain in darkness.
"We expect the new government to extend electricity to these areas," he stated.
He recalled how community members previously attempted to clear roads manually until heavy rains disrupted their efforts.
"We hope the new government will deploy machinery to open up our communities, which will boost economic activities," he added.
Mr Kpan appealed for more boreholes to be provided in underserved areas of the community. "Some parts of the community still don't have access to water. It’s a big problem," he said.
Unemployment among the youth is also fueling social problems, including theft and highway robbery. "If the youth have jobs, they won’t have to engage in crime," he said.
He urged the government to create more opportunities for both skilled and unskilled youth to reduce social vices and empower the younger generation.
"We expect the government to ensure the youth are employed and to provide the necessary support for the development of our community," he concluded.
