Residents of Kakyuu, a farming community located in the Eggu Electoral Area in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, are urgently sounding the alarm over their dire water access situation. With only two boreholes available, the community is struggling to meet the daily water needs of its growing population. A local resident, Mr. Kungbanzie Mumuni, expressed deep concern in an interview with Info Radio 91.1 FM , stating that the community has significantly outgrown its limited water supply infrastructure.
"These two boreholes are simply not enough," Mumuni lamented. "During the dry season, we face even greater hardships as both residents and livestock rely solely on these dwindling sources of water."
The situation is exacerbated during periods of drought, placing additional strain on both human and animal populations in Kakyuu. As families gather at the boreholes, they are met with long waits and limited access, making this essential resource a source of stress rather than relief.
In addition to their water woes, residents of Kakyuu are grappling with a significant health care gap. The absence of a local health facility has created immense challenges for those in need of medical attention. Mr. Tuo Solomon, another community member, described the difficulties they face in seeking healthcare, which often requires traveling long distances to access services. To combat this issue, they have attempted to establish a community-run health facility, but progress has stalled, leaving residents without critical health services.
As the community of Kakyuu navigates these pressing challenges, their calls for urgent action underscore the need for investment by the government and the Wa Wwst District Assembly in both water infrastructure and health services. Without immediate support, the residents face a bleak future, grappling with basic needs that are crucial for the community's well-being and development.
