A dam that needs expansion

Residents of Kadoli in the Yibile Electoral Area, Wa Municipality, are appealing to the government and local authorities to expand their existing dam to support dry season vegetable production and improve water access for livestock.

In an interview with Info Radio in Kadoli, the residents highlighted that the current dam is too small to meet the growing needs of the community. They stressed that an expanded dam would enable them to engage in dry-season farming, which would serve as a reliable source of income and improve food security.

According to the residents, the small size of the dam has made it difficult for their animals to get enough water, which is negatively affecting livestock rearing -a key source of livelihood in the community.

They also mentioned that the dam was improperly constructed, making it less effective in storing water for long periods.

“If the dam is expanded, we can farm vegetables all year round, which will not only improve our income but also provide food for our families," said one resident.

Another added, "Our animals suffer a lot during the dry season because there’s not enough water in the dam. Expanding it will help both farmers and livestock owners.
