In a significant initiative aimed at empowering young women, Mr. Kala Osman, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of K. Kalasco Weaving & Textiles Training Centre, has officially inaugurated a new Weaving Center in Boli, Wa Municipality.
This center is set to provide free weaving training for young girls in the surrounding community. During the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Osman highlighted that the establishment of the weaving center will alleviate the financial burdens often faced by young girls seeking to learn the craft.
By eliminating rent, food, and transportation costs associated with attending other training programs in Wa, the center aims to make skill acquisition more accessible.
Mr. Osman expressed his vision for the future, stating that he hopes for Wa to transform into a vibrant "smock city" within the next five years, thereby enhancing the local economy and job opportunities.
Madam Alice Doghle, the Upper West Regional Gender Officer for Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET), acknowledged the efforts of Mr. Osman and emphasized TVET's commitment to collaborating with individuals and organizations focused on providing essential skills to the youth.
She affirmed the government’s dedication to supporting TVET institutions in driving national development. However, concerns were raised by Mr. Abu Sulemana, a representative from the Center for National Culture (CNC) in the Upper West Region, who noted the need for greater attention to the weaving industry and its potential to create job opportunities.
Additionally, Naa Abdul Rahama Jimba, the Smocks Chief in the region, assured Mr. Osman of his commitment to bringing skilled personnel to train apprentices in smock sewing, further enhancing the local textile industry's potential.
The new Weaving Center is poised to make a significant impact by fostering self-reliance among young girls, thus contributing to a decrease in the unemployment rate within the country.
