Residents of Happa, near Hamile in the Lambussie district, have passionately appealed to the government to construct a dam for the community.
The residents, who are farmers, stated that the provision of a dam in the community would enable them to engage in dry-season farming.
Mr Abubakari Abdul-Moomin, the Assembly member for Happa Electoral Area, speaking to Info Radio in Happa, mentioned that most of the residents travelled to the southern sector in search of jobs during the dry season.
"All of us sitting here when the farming season is over, we don’t have any job to do. Employment is significant for us. We want that when the farming season is over, we can engage in other jobs," stated Mr. Abdul Moomin.
He appealed to the government through the Lambussie district assembly to construct a dam for the community.
However, the DCE for Lambussie, Mr George Gerard Naluri, responding to the residents' concerns, noted that the district is currently constructing some dams through the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP).
He said officials from the Ghana Irrigation Authority will visit the community for an assessment to determine if the community has a suitable valley for water retention.
He noted that, apart from that, the district has allocated GH₵10,000 to women's groups in the Happa community to improve their trade.
