The Hajia Humu Foundation (HHF) has donated assorted educational items to five Education Unit (EU) Managements to support education delivery and access in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The items including school uniforms, exercise books, laptops pens, pencils and erasers were handed over by the Founder and Executive Director of the HHF, Hajia Humu Awudu to the Managements of the Units at the forecourt of Islamic Education Unit in Wa on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
The items worth about GH¢150,000.00 would benefit hundreds of needy pupils in 40 schools in the 5 educational units within the municipality.
Hajia Humu Awudu, at the short ceremony to hand over the items, said the donation followed a request by the Islamic Education (IEU) Unit which she has expanded to benefit all the Units in the municipality.
The 2020 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Wa Central said that the donation was to alleviate the quandary of needy school children and make access to education easy for them.
The donation, being one of her numerous social interventions, she said was intended to make education accessible to all children irrespective of their backgrounds.
“It is difficult these days when you get children or pupils who cannot be in class because they have torn dresses; they can’t come to school because they think that their colleagues are going to mock at them. So this donation is to help kids stay in school,” Hajia Humu stated.
She said the foundation will follow through to the beneficiary schools to ensure equitable distribution of the items, and identify other areas that need support.
Rev. Monica A. Achana, the Methodist Education Unit Manager, speaking on behalf of the Conference of Managers of Educational Units (COMEU) in the region, thanked the HHF for the kind rare gesture.
“Hon Hajia, I’ll call her a Queen of the Land, a Mother of the Land who have the People of the Land at heart ….I want to say a very big thank you to you.
“This is not the first donation you [Hajia] made; the first time, she gave them dual desks and this time round, she is bringing books for them to sit there and write. Hajia, we are so grateful and I believe even the gods of this land appreciate the service you’re rendering to your people,” Rev. Achana said.
The Methodist EU Manager encourages the 2020 Wa Central NPP Parliamentary Candidate to continue the ‘good works’ and that at God’s appointed time, she would ascend the status she so desired.
Rev. Achana prayed for God’s endless favors for Hajia Humu saying that “God will continue to provide for you as you’re providing for others…and God will provide the resources which you’re helping humanity with, for your services to man is service to God.”
She promised the items would be put in good use to serve the intended purpose.
Mr. Anacletus Begyelnye, Deputy Director in charge of Administration and Finance at the Wa Municipal Education Office, commended Hajia Humu Awudu for the continuous support to the development of education in the municipality and by extension the region.
He intimated that the items donated would go a long way to enhance effective teaching and learning in the municipality.
“And I must also put on record that, she is not only helping with uniforms and books, but she is also helping to equip the various Educational Unit Offices including the Municipal Education Office with IT equipment. …it’s going to enhance our work in training our future leaders,” he said.
He appealed for more support from the HHF to turn around the fortunes and administration of education in the municipality.
The education units benefiting from the donation include Islamic, Methodist, Catholic and Ahmadiyya Education Units and the Wa Municipal Education Directorate.
This has come but a few days after Hajia Humu Awudu had led a delegation of eminent chiefs, traditional rulers and religious leaders as well leadership of the ASWAJ Education Committee to pay a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to discussed among others, the absorption of the ASWAJ College of Education, Manwe by government and the provision of school buses and pick-up vans to Wa Senior High, Wa Islamic and Jamiat Islamic Senior High schools.
The outcome of which meeting was reported to have received surety of the relentless support of the Minister as well as addition of one student from the shores of the Upper West Region to the Bosomtwe MP’s “100 Engineers for Bosomtwe Project” scholarship.
