The residents of Paala in the Sigri Electoral Area of the Wa West District are expressing their dissatisfaction with the lack of government support for their community.
They are particularly concerned about the challenges their children face in accessing formal education. According to the residents, children have to undertake a long journey to Kyietanga, another community in the electoral area, in order to attend school.
This journey involves crossing rivers, putting their lives at risk. Consequently, many children from Paala are unable to attend school, leading to a high number of school dropouts in the community.
Mr. Mantanne Kantuona, a parent in the community, expressed his concern, stating, "60 children from Paala have to endure attending school in Kyietanga. Many of the children we enroll in school end up dropping out and getting married, perpetuating a cycle due to the lack of educational facilities in our community. It's a major challenge for us here."
The residents feel neglected by the government, as Mr. Kantuona emphasized, "Nothing is going well in this community, and the government seems to have turned its back on us. We have nothing to be proud of in this community."
Furthermore, during the rainy season, the children are unable to attend school, and the community members question their status as citizens, given this lack of support from the government.
One resident mentioned, "If the government does not intervene and address the issues in our community, we will not vote in the upcoming elections."
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Sigri electoral area, Mr. Peter Mwini Igaah, expressed his concerns about the inadequacy of schools in the area.
He highlighted, "The lack of proper school infrastructure is a challenge not only in Paala but across the entire electoral area. We are working on mobilizing community resources to initiate the construction of schools to address this pressing issue."
