The Wa Municipal Education Directorate in partnership with Bliss Eye Care, a private Eye Clinic in Wa, under the latter’s Blissful Sight for Kids project, has organized a free eye screening exercise for basic school children at Sing in the Wa Municipality.
Mr Abudi Issahaku, the Wa Municipal Coordinator of the School Health Education Programme (SHEP), observed that the importance of eyes could not be overemphasized when it comes to teaching and learning and for that matter education.
He thus urged parents and guardians to show a keen interest in caring for the eyes of their wards.
He said good sight was synonymous to good learning saying that difficulty in seeing equally means difficulty in learning.
Mr Issahaku explained the screening exercise was to enable them to timely detect children with eye conditions for a timely intervention to save them from losing their eyes.
Optometrist, Dr. Zakarea Al-hassan Balure, who is also Manager of the Bliss Eye Care, described the eye screening exercise as successful.
The exercise saw about 600 children who had eye conditions provided with free medication and glasses offered free for those who required them.
