A total of 256 women in the Wa Municipality have benefited from a free breast cancer screening organised by Madam Khalida M. A. Seidu, a Gender Advocate, to mark the breast cancer awareness month.
Out of the number, five women who were suspected of having breast cancer were referred to the Wa Municipal Hospital for further screening and testing.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked Madam Seidu for the initiative as it had helped them to know their breast cancer status.
Madam Maria Yuorpor, who also took part in the screening exercise, said breast cancer awareness creation should not only be loud in the month of October since it needed concerted action to be tackled.
Madam Seidu, who is also the Deputy Upper West Regional Women's Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said regular screening was crucial in early diagnosing and treatment of breast cancer.
Madam Adishetu Bolibie, a Midwife at the Wa Municipal Hospital, encouraged women to go for regular breast cancer screening.
