Frustration Mounts as Wa-Kumasi Road Condition Affects Transportation and Trade

In recent times, the Wa-Kumasi highway has become a source of frustration for drivers, passengers, and businesses alike. The poor state of the road has led to numerous complaints and concerns from those who rely on it for transportation and the movement of goods and services.

The 360-kilometer stretch of road, which connects the Upper West Regional capital, Wa, to the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, has seen a significant deterioration in its condition over the past few years. Potholes, cracks, and poorly constructed sections have made the journey a bumpy and dangerous experience for both drivers and passengers.

Many drivers speaking to Info Radio have expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation, citing safety concerns and the toll it takes on their vehicles as primary reasons for their frustration. One driver, Mr. Abdulai, shared his experience, stating, "The road is in a terrible state. It's not only uncomfortable, but it's also extremely dangerous. My car has suffered significant damage from the constant jolts, and I worry about the safety of my passengers as well."

Passengers, too, have not been spared from the negative impact of the poor road conditions. Longer travel times, discomfort, and the risk of accidents have led to numerous complaints from those who rely on public transport.

A frustrated passenger, Mrs. Bataayele, said, "I've had to endure countless hours of bumpy rides on this road. It's not only exhausting but also very unsafe. Something needs to be done to improve the situation."

The deplorable state of the Wa-Kumasi road has also had a significant impact on the movement of goods and services between the two regions. Businesses and traders who rely on this route for the transportation of their products have been hit hard by the poor road conditions. Delays, damaged goods, and increased transportation costs have led to financial losses and reduced profitability for many.

The Ghana Roads and Transport Association (GPRTU) has called for urgent intervention from the government to address the issue. According to the Upper West GPRTU, "The Wa-Kumasi road has become a nightmare for both drivers and passengers. It's time for the government to step in and fix this problem before it gets worse. The situation is affecting businesses and the economy as a whole."

As the frustration continues to grow, it is crucial for the relevant authorities to take immediate action to improve the state of the Wa-Kumasi road. The safety of road users, the well-being of businesses, and the overall development of the regions depend on it.
