The chiefs and people of the Zingu Divisional Area in the Wa Municipality have placed a temporal ban on fishing in the Zingu River called Kongkpong.
It is aimed at allowing the growth of fingerlings to sustain the fish population in the river.
The ban came alongside other sanctions imposed by the chiefs and people to maintain order, peace and tranquillity in the area, especially among farmers, both crop and animal farmers.
Speaking to Info Radio on the sanctions and ban, the Assembly Member of the area, Mr Abdul-Wahab Nuhu noted that anyone who defies the order and is caught would face the full rigours of the law and customs of the land.
The chiefs and people of the area have also issued stern warnings against theft in the area, predominantly animal stealing.
In relation to that, the Assembly Member said that the modus operandi of the alleged thieves has been identified to be raiding the animals amongst herds and flocks at the Kongkpong where the animals go to drink.
He, therefore, warned that anyone caught shall duly face the people's wrath.
