Firefighters risk their lives to salvage lives and properties - Fire Officer

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Upper West Region has celebrated International Firefighters’ Day in honour of the sacrifices firefighters make to salvage lives and properties.

The International Firefighters’ Day, observed each year on 4th May, is a day set aside for communities to recognize and honour the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are safe.

Speaking to Info Radio in Wa, the Deputy Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GNFS, Assistant Divisional Officer Grade One (ADO I) Iddrisu Imran, said firefighters risk their lives in salvaging people and properties, and sometimes end up sustaining injuries and some losing their lives in the process.

ADO I Imran stated that the fire situation in the region for the first quarter of this year has drastically reduced compared to last year.

He indicated that in the first quarter of the year, they recorded 74 fire incidents as compared to last year which was about 135 incidents.

He, therefore, urged the public to observe the fire safety protocols, by putting off their electrical gadgets whenever they are leaving their homes or offices.
