The Fidelity Bank Ghana, Ghana’s largest privately-owned Ghanaian bank, has cut sod for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for Duose Primary School in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.
This forms part of the bank’s social corporate responsibility (CSR) project dubbed “Orange Impact” to mark its 15 years anniversary.
The Duose school project is among 15 other schools identified and earmarked to benefit from customized facility and resource upgrades from the bank as part of its efforts to provide quality education infrastructure to deprived communities.
“This initiative seeks to provide a medium to long-term suit of support packages to 15 marginalized schools located in various regions across the country,” the bank’s Deputy Managing Director, Operations and Support Functions, Mr Atta Yeboah Gyan said.
Mr Gyan who said this in Duose on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the sod-cutting ceremony for the school project, indicated that the Orange Impact project was to appreciate the Ghanaian populace for supporting the realization of the bank’s vision.
The six-unit classroom, when completed, will offer a conducive atmosphere for students and teachers for enhanced teaching and learning activities.
He disclosed that the pool of funding for the project originates from the bank as an entity and the generous donations of their staff members across the country.
“Additionally, each of our Branches and business offices across the country has adopted particular schools, and has been tasked to play a direct role in overseeing the various Orange Impact projects in their allocated schools from inception to completion,” he added.
Mr Gyan said the bank was consumed with epitomizing Ghanaian excellence as part of its corporate vision and continued to invest in education, resources, opportunities and support to enable the Ghanaian youth to achieve the highest levels of excellence.
He disclosed that the bank, through its youth-focused undertakings, has birthed the Fidelity Youth Entrepreneurship Fund (FYEF) and the Orange Corners Innovation Fund (OCIF) which together was supporting some 61 youth businesses with a cumulative sum of about GHS7 million.
He said the interventions aimed at building capacities, harnessing social impact potentials and ultimately enabling youth entrepreneurs to grow and scale up their businesses.
The Wa West District Chief Executive, DCE Madam Vida Diorotey expressed appreciation to the Management of Fidelity Bank for helping to bring quality education close to the doorsteps of the people of Duose, as a contribution to the government’s education agenda.
“The intervention by Fidelity Bank is not only appropriate and will ultimately complement government’s effort of bringing education to the doorsteps of our people aimed at ensuring that every Ghanaian child of school-going age has access to quality and affordable education regardless of the geographical location,” she indicated.
She called on the community members to support the project for timely and successful completion.
The District Education Director for Wa West, Mr Amatus D. Tug-uu said the intervention was timely to solve some of the challenges affecting the quality of education delivery in the district, citing that the pupils of Duose hitherto lie on their stomachs to receive academic instructions.
He appealed to the Fidelity Bank to consider furnishing the soon-to-be constructed classroom with sufficient furniture and a computer laboratory to enhance quality education at the school and the district at large.
The Chief of Duose, Duose Naa Bawa Seidu applauded the Management of Fidelity Bank for the Orange Impact Project being implemented in his community which he was optimistic would go a long way to enhance access and quality education delivery.
