The educational future of approximately 300 pupils at the Bayeroo school in Taamapuo is hanging in the balance following the decision of the only volunteer teacher to pursue higher education.
Established as a community initiative between Bayeroo and Taamapuo to bridge the educational gap created by the distance to the nearest public school, the institution relied heavily on the dedication of a single volunteer teacher. However, with her departure to further her studies, the school faces a critical challenge in meeting the educational needs of its students.
Mr. Mornaah Felix, a resident of Taamapuo, expressed deep concern over the situation in an Interview with Info Radio 91.1 FM . He stated, "The community mobilized to create this school, and with our only teacher now gone, our children are left without educational support." He further explained that while some older children from Taamapuo have been relocated to other schools, the younger pupils from Bayeroo remain at home, unable to access any form of education.
The situation underscores the pressing need for sustainable education solutions in remote communities. Local leaders and parents are now calling for urgent measures from the district education directorate to ensure that the educational opportunities for these children are not lost by posting teachers to the community. As discussions continue, the community hopes to find a swift resolution and restore stability to the educational environment in Bayeroo and Taamapuo.
