Farmers in Nyoli, located in the Sawla Tuna Kalba District, have requested government intervention to help them increase crop production and ensure food security.
Mr Wisa Domapiel, one of the farmers who spoke to Info Radio, highlighted that the lack of access to tractor services and fertilizer is a significant challenge for farmers in the community.
He appealed to nongovernmental organizations and the government to support farmers with subsidized tractor services or soft loans to enable them to increase their production.
"It's challenging for us to access tractors for plowing our fields. Often, when we do manage to get a tractor, the costs are so high that we can't afford to pay. If we could receive financial support on a credit basis, allowing us to repay after the harvest, it would significantly improve our production."
Mr Domapiel alleged that the community is left out of the government support programs for farmers. He stated that they are yet to benefit from the Planting for Food and Jobs program and the government support for farmers affected by the dry spell.
He mentioned, “We heard that the government says farmers need to register this year for support, but we haven’t seen anyone in our community to assist us with the registration to benefit from it.”
