Elevate Wa Municipal to Metropolitan status-Wa Naa appeals

Naa Seidu Fuseini Pelpuo IV, the Overlord of the Wala State, has appealed to the government to elevate the Wa Municipality to a Metropolitan status to ensure equitable development in the area.

He said the Wa Municipality has overgrown its current administrative status and needs to be elevated to a Metropolitan Assembly with a creation of new constituencies out of the current Municipal Assembly.

Naa Pelpuo IV made the appeal through his Secretary, Jinpenhi Naa Kadiri Ibrahim, on the occasion of the climax of the 2024 Dumba Festival celebration.

“For some time now we have called on the government to elevate the Wa Municipality to a metropolitian status while carving out a separate district from it and to ensure a balanced development for the communities of the Wala State.”

While calling for the elevation, Wa Naa also urged the government to address infrastructural deficits in the pre-tertiary institutions in the region.

He mentioned the lack of hostel facilities at the Dr Hilla Limann Technical University and the Wa Nursing Training College as some of the challenges of the schools.

He also pleaded with the government to complete the many uncompleted infrastructural projects at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).

The Overlord also requested the government to enhance security in the Wa Municipality by installing streetlights. He mentioned the recent series of killings in the municipality and emphasized that better lighting would help reduce crime.

The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, who represented President Akufo-Addo, expressed the government's concern about the killings in Wa and assured that efforts are being made to address the situation.
