The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Moomin has called for the maintenance of peace and unity in the municipality to promote growth and development.
He said disputes and conflicts retard growth and development and thus urged the people of the municipality to be at peace with one another.
Alhaji Moomin made the call on the occasion of the 66th Independence Anniversary for Wa Municipal on the theme, “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose” at the Naa Sidiki Bomi Park, Wa.
He appealed to stakeholders to unite their efforts in promoting quality education delivery and other essential services necessary for human growth and development.
Mr Moomin noted that the Independence Day celebration is an opportunity to honour the country’s present and past heroes and to consolidate the gains chalked by the country.
Mr Moomin seized the occasion to urge students to imbibe the spirits of hard work, discipline, humiliation and determination and also emulate the qualities of the founding fathers of the nation so as to become better leaders in the future.
He commended the efforts of the government in implementing the free SHS and free TVET policies to make education accessible to all Ghanaian children.
The MCE also admonished the people of the Municipality to be wary of the hot season and its attendant diseases, especially cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM).
He urged the people to live and sleep in ventilated places, avoid overcrowding and drink enough water.
He called on the chiefs and Assembly Members to sensitize their people about the devastating efforts of CSM and how to stay safe.
The parade, which was marked in pomp and pageantry, had in attendance government officials, traditional authorities, and other interest groups with over 2000 students drawn from 22 students engaged in the march-past activities.
For the awards, Senior Victor College Primary emerged as winners for the Primary Schools category followed by Sweet Mother Academy and Yibile Primary Schools respectively.
Winners for the Junior High Schools category went to Wa Municipal Model Girls with Sweet Mother Academy and Wa Model Junior High Schools being first and second runners-up respectively.
In the Senior High Schools category, Wa Senior High Technical School emerged winner and was followed closely by TI Ahmadiyya and Wa Senior High Schools respectively.
For the Special Schools, the Wa Methodist School for the Blind emerged winner with runners-up being the Wa School for the Deaf.
In the aspect of the Senior High School’s Cadet Corps, Wa Senior High Cadet emerged winners with first and second runners-up being Jamiat Girls and TI Ahmadiyya Senior High Schools respectively.
