DHLTU donates furniture to community basic school


The Dr Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) has donated classroom furniture to the Al-Azhar Junior High School in Kpongu to facilitate learning and teaching activities in the school.


The donation follows a request by the community through the school authorities and management committee.


Authorities of the university handed over a total of 60 mono desks to the school to salvage it from the furniture deficit which adversely hampered academic activities.


At a short ceremony on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 to hand over the furniture, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Elias N. K. Sowley, said the university found it an obligation to support the lower-level educational institutions within its locality to foster a good relation to secure good futures for the young ones.


He said even though the university is young struggling to fund its feet, it feels obliged to support in any little way.


He urged the authorities of the beneficiary school and the pupils to put the items to good use.


Prof Sowley has disabused the notion that technical universities are meant for intellectually weak persons, rather he said it is for the intelligent as it involves high level thinking.


He said the DHLTU is practical oriented and trains career people who can employ themselves and other after completion of the university.


He urged that industrialization and technical and vocational (TVET) skills is the way to go in order to develop the nation.


The Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA), Adamu Mahama thanked the University for honouring their request and promised that the furniture would be put to good use.


Before the intervention by the university, about a 150 pupil population of the school depended on just 58 desks to learn, most which were bought personally by the pupils.
