Day of Girls marked in beautiful rhetoric in Wa Falahia Islamic School


International Day of the Girl Child has been marked in a beautiful rhetoric of skills training and career development in Wa yesterday.


This year’s theme was: 'Digital generation. Our generation', which is a call for equal access to the internet for girls as well as digital devices.


The activity which took place at Falahia Islamic School was powered by Beautiful Smiles Project – girls’ mentoring and skills development organization, Mara Foods – indigenous food processing and catering services company, and NoniHub – a technology firm, all in the Upper West Region.


Speaking in an interview with Info Radio, CEO of Mara Foods and Beautiful Smiles Project, Maria Johana Yuorpor said the activity was necessitated by the need to empower girl children for national development, marking the important global day.

She intimated that girls are great asserts to the wellbeing of society and should be nurtured to fit well into the corporate society by harnessing their potentials through skills training and empowerment.


Maria, before taking the school girls through various areas of the skills training, educated the girls on the significance of the day – International Day of the Girl Child – as set out by the United Nations.



Programmes Director at NoniHub, a tech company, Salis Mohammed Awal said digitalization has become very important if not necessary at the time when the Coronavirus pandemic has shifted learning from analogue to digital settings.


He said it was thus, important for children to be trained in the area of digitalization for their learning as well as future business needs.



The pupils numbering about 50 were taken through digitalization, skills training in bead and paper bag making as well as career development by different facilitators.


The pupils expressed happiness and gratitude to the organizers for giving out of their way. They expressed conviction that the training would be a life changer.
