Daffiama SHS examination center derecognized by WAEC for cheating

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has derecognized Daffiama Senior High School (SHS) as an examination center following allegations of cheating during the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to reports, the school was found to have engaged in examination malpractice during the recent WASSCE.

Mr Donald Tuor, the Upper West Regional Controller of WAEC, made the disclosure on Info Radio, stating that a total of 15 mobile phones were confiscated from both students and invigilators during the exams.

“If we had found all 15 phones in one hall, we would have blamed the invigilator, but they were found in different halls in the school,” he added.

He expressed concern about the widespread examination malpractice recorded in the school during the examinations. He noted that other foreign materials were found with the candidates in the examination hall.

Mr Tuor mentioned that the candidates were moved to Queen of Peace SHS to write the rest of their papers due to the withdrawal of the accreditation.

He added that foreign materials were found with students in schools across the region which led to the cancellation of some student’s entire papers.

The 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which started on Monday, August 5, 2024, ended across the country on Friday, September 20, 2024.

A total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females, from 1,003 recognized senior high schools across the country participated in this year’s WASSCE.
