Curious Minds donates to Heritage Heaven orphanage in Wa

The Wa Chapter Club of the Children and Youth in Broadcasting (CYIB Curious Minds) has made a donation of food items to the Heritage Heaven foster home in Wa as it marks 27 years of service to children and young people.

The donation formed part of Curious Minds' core value of promoting the welfare of children and supporting their growth and meaningful development.

The items included four bags of 25 kg polished rice and soft drinks.

Speaking at the event, the Regional Coordinator of the club, Mr Philip Tengzu said the visit to the facility was to interact with the children and share ideas regarding how the welfare of the children could be promoted.

He said all activities of the Curious Minds revolve around the child and that it was in the plans of the club to constantly engage children in activities that promote their development.

Mr Tengzu noted that the welfare of children, especially those found in foster homes was very important and should concern all members of society, hence the decision of the Curious Minds to offer its widow’s mite.

He hinted that Curious Minds was interested in forming a club at the facility to promote literacy and the culture of reading among the children. He noted the visit was the first but certainly not last as he promised the club’s frequent visits and interactions with children at the facility.

The Deputy Regional Coordinator of the club, Mr Aminu Ibrahim said Curious Minds aims at developing young activists through knowledge generation and information sharing by training young people and children to better advocate for the wellbeing of society.

He said Curious Minds trains its young members to know about themselves using relevant national and international documents such as the Children’s Act and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

He emphasized the need for children to lead responsible lives stressing that rights are accompanied by responsibilities.

The Secretary of Heritage Heaven, Mr Solomon Yakubu, on behalf of the Director of the facility, expressed the profound gratitude of the facility to the Curious Minds for the kind gesture.

He said the facility 2021 established an elementary school, JesLove Intellectuals Academy, to offer the children seamless access to quality education.

He indicated the facility, over the years, has nurtured and can be proud of a number of beneficiaries who are excelling in life and career.

The children at the facility were engaged in life coaching and personal development interactions in areas of personal hygiene, self-confidence, and becoming a hero after going out of the foster home.

The sessions, facilitated by Leenat Abdul Rahman, Programs Coordinator of the Curious Minds, also had the children engaged in active question and answer activity where the children asked all the curious questions and appropriate answers provided.
