Contracts controversy and lack of support cited as factors in NPP's Upper West Region loss

Dr Dauda Tanko Daniel, the Upper West Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has attributed the party’s humiliating defeat in the region to the lack of support from the party and its appointees.

Dr Daniel speaking to Info Radio on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, after the election, says the regional executive of the party saw the defeat coming and cautioned the party, but the party did not listen.

“When we (the Regional Executive) were having issues with the regional minister and the president came, he did not have any issue with the minister’s behavior. But he blamed the regional executives. He strengthens the regional minister’s behavior. The regional minister was awarding and selling contracts to people, and we complained, but he did not listen to us.”

“We told the regional minister that, the people he is giving the contracts to; we cannot go to them during elections for any support, but that is what happened. We finished the campaign without support from anybody from the Upper West Region. I can swear that we did not receive any support from anybody in the region because when we came into power, we did not support any contractor or anybody.” he stated.

Before the election, the NPP had three (3) parliamentary seats out of the eleven (11) constituencies in the region. The party lost all the seats to the NDC in the election.

The NPP Upper West Regional Secretary stated that the party underperformed significantly compared to their target in the region. He mentioned that multiple warnings issued to the party did not produce any positive outcomes.
