CDA unveils new project to stakeholders in Wa

The Community Development Alliance (CDA), a non-governmental organization based in the Upper West Region, held an engagement with stakeholders in Wa for its peace project.

The meeting gathered women group leaders from different districts and municipalities, as well as representatives from the National Commission on Civil Education (NCCE), the police, and the peace council, among others.

The new project, called Regional Women Network in Peace Building (RENEW), is funded by USAID. Its aim is to empower women with the necessary skills and information to promote peace within their communities before, during, and after elections.

Madam Razak Farida Numbu, the Programme Manager at CDA, explained to Info Radio that the meeting was held to introduce the RENEW members to the stakeholders.

It also aimed to enable the members to inform the stakeholders about the activities they have carried out in their respective districts and municipalities through the Deepening Women Empowerment in Networking project.

"About a year and a half ago, we began the Ghana Zero Nineteen initiative, which aimed to empower women through networking. We visited four districts and municipalities to engage women involved in tailoring and dressmaking, as well as persons with disabilities, and provided them with knowledge to help maintain peace in their respective communities," she explained.

She mentioned that in Ghana-Zero Thirty-six, the project was extended to all eleven districts and municipalities, where women were given knowledge on financial literacy.

The Executive Director for Life Again Foundation, Madam Saudatu Mohammed, said the meeting has been a nice experience, meeting the women who are doing great work in their communities to promote peace.

“For somebody like me who has experience as well, I know the importance of this project and the amazing work these women are doing.”

She pledges her organization’s support to the network. She urged the youth to avoid violence as the country enters a crucial election in December.

Some members who spoke to Info Radio commended CDA and USAID for the RENEW project. They mentioned that they have undertaken projects like clean-up campaigns and sensitization on peace in their various communities.
