Bedrooms Converted into Classrooms at Owlo Tendanba School

For the past eight years, students of Owlo Tendanba Primary and Junior High Schools have been learning in cramped and unconventional classrooms - converted bedrooms in a private residence.

The school's infrastructure challenges have forced administrators to combine two classes in one space, severely impacting teaching and learning.

According to Mr. Zinenie Braimah and Mr. Moses Bayuoye, both residents of Owlo, a community member who owns the residence, locally referred to as a "Bangalore," generously offered it as a temporary solution. However, with the owner now requesting the building back, the school faces an uncertain future.

"If the owner takes over the building, our students will be forced to sit under trees," Mr. Braimah lamented.

Mr. Mohammed Ali, Chairman of the School Management Committee, expressed frustration with the situation, highlighting the negative impact on students and teachers. Despite chiefs demarcating land for a new school building, the project has stalled due to financial constraints.

"We have reported this situation to past authorities, but no action has been taken," Mr. Ali said.

"We appeal to the government and philanthropic organizations to intervene and provide us with the necessary infrastructure to provide quality education to our children."

On his part, the Assembly Member for the Owlo Electoral Area, Mr. Zuzie Ametus, has revealed that the Owlo Tendanba Basic School is listed under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project, with work expected to commence soon.

Speaking to Info Radio, Mr. Zuzie expressed optimism about the project, which is expected to improve educational infrastructure in the area. However, he noted the pressing need for immediate support to address the school's challenges while awaiting the project's commencement.

The situation at Owlo Tendanba Primary and Junior High Schools highlights the need for investment in educational infrastructure in Ghana. As the government strives to improve access to quality education, schools like Owlo Tendanba require urgent attention to provide a conducive learning environment for students.
