The Wa East District Director of the National Youth Authority, Mr Moomin Iddrisu urged youths in the district to be proactive in solving developmental challenges in their communities.
He said this at Yaru, a community in the Wa East District during a one-day satellite installation training session at the community.
The training program was organized by Youth Alliance for Community Change (YACC-Ghana), a youth-led community-based organization in Wa East with sponsorship from the National Youth Authority (NYA).
He said the district is beset with many socio-economic problems saying that, teenage pregnancy is high among them.
The Director has advised girl children to abstain from pre-marital sex and avoid promiscuous lifestyles.
He urged them to find better ways of raising money rather than depending on boys for money. "Do not allow yourselves to be used by boys because of some GH₵5.00. Work for the GH₵5.00 yourself and stop collecting monies from boys who would not let you go free," he advised.
He said the boys would end up impregnating them and making their lives miserable.
Mr Moomin urged the youth be ambassadors of change in the community. "Like it or yes, you are the tomorrow's leaders of this country, so you have to act responsibly today and create positive impact in your communities," Mr Moomin said.
Speaking at close of the training, a participant, Mr Yussif Abdulai thanked the organizers of the event for coming to train tens of youths for free. He said it is a rare privilege to have people trained in a skill at no fee.
He urged the participants to take the skill learned seriously for their financial benefits.
Miss Mashruhatu Alhassan, another participant called on girls not to always denigrate themselves when it comes to learning new skills.
