The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has voiced his growing frustration over the delay in presidential assent for the controversial anti- LGBTQ+ bill.
The anti-LGBTQ law, passed by parliament in February, has been on hold since the president's office stated it would wait for the outcome of two legal challenges before submitting it to Akufo-Addo for assent.
Delivering a speech on holistic education during the 25th-anniversary celebration of the Queen of Peace Senior High School in Nadowli on November 23, Alban Bagbin stated that holistic education is not a one-time effort but a continuous process that requires a concerted effort of educators, institutions, families, students and the broader community led by the government of the day.
He called on all stakeholders concerned to play their roles in implementing holistic education throughout human existence.
“Together we go and flourish in knowledge, intelligence, skills, competences, creativity, honesty and more importantly the spiritual up living because that will give us life after death,” he added.
Alban Bagbin stated that some deviant individuals are attacking the seed of life, the family. He noted that when the family gets things right, education becomes easier.
“When the family life is in tatters it become difficult for such a child to be educated. So, when you are talking about the students here, it is a direct reflection on us the parents. We can’t blame the students because those are our products,” Mr Bagbin added.
Speaker Bagbin continued: “And so when I heard people talk about LGBTQ….Are you crazy? You want to end the world? Did you create the world? And for me if you are in that group, don’t get close to me at all.”
Mr Bagbin expressed his disappointment over President Akufo Addo’s delay on the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
“And that is why I’m really; very angered that as at today the bill that we struggle with all of you to pass in parliament has not received the assent of his Excellency the President. And when I say this thing, I say it with emotion and anger. It must be done to save mother Ghana.”
He mentioned that holistic education cannot take place if there is no family and children.
