The Member of Parliament of Nadowli/Kaleo District, Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah has backed his call on government to ensure timely payment of National Health Insurance Scheme claims as be believed the purpose of the NHIS is gradually fading away.
Speaking on Info Radio’s late afternoon show, Te Zine Yiri Yela, he averred that the primary objective for which the NHIS was setup, to take away the financial burden on the citizenry in terms of health, is almost lost as citizens are now compelled to go back of the old system of ‘cash and carry’ to attained their healthcare needs.
The Member of Parliament further contended that the NHIS subscription by citizens is an insurance that should be paid into the nation’s consolidated fund and as such made readily available for its intended purpose.
He could therefore not understand why the NHIS is being indebted and failed to be paid its claims for over 7 months when indeed the citizens have subscribed.
Making a statement in Parliament today, Monday, March 29, 2021, the MP urged government to provide the National Health Insurance Authority with adequate and timely funding to fulfil its “most important obligation of prompt subscriber reimbursements for services rendered.”
