The Agricultural Extension Officer in charge of the Vieri Zone, Mr Nasiru Sidik, has advised farmers to hold onto some farming activities until the rain resumes.
A prolonged dry spell has gripped the Upper West Region, causing concern among farmers who are eagerly awaiting the rains to revive their parched crops. With little to no significant rainfall in recent weeks, farming activities have come to a standstill, leaving agricultural productivity hanging in the balance.
As the delay in rainfall continues, farmers in the region are growing increasingly anxious, fearing the worst for their crops if the rains do not arrive soon.
When discussing the challenges that farmers are currently facing, Mr. Sidik mentioned that not all farming activities can continue as usual during this period, but they should resume once the rains return.
He advised farmers to refrain from using herbicides during the drought, as applying them at this time could harm their crops.
He also mentioned that a lot is still happening under the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase Two program in the Wa West District. He stated that inputs have started coming in and concluded that everything is fine with the program at the moment.
According to Musah Zakaria, the Agricultural Extension Officer for the Busa Zone, the Wa Municipality has commenced receiving inputs under the program. He urged farmers to be patient as the inputs are being delivered in batches.
