The Wa West District operational office of the AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Control Limited (AGAMAL) has debunked claims that their insecticide used in spraying breeds poultry lice.
Speaking at an organized AGAMAL end of season stakeholders meeting at Wechiau on Wednesday July 14, 2021, the District Operations Officer, Mr Samuel Gbedi revealed some residents of the Wa West District are blaming AGAMAL of recent outbreak of poultry lice in their communities.
Mr Samuel Gbedi expressed disappointment at the claims by some residents, he explained that, the organization has since put grievous effort through its Zonal Officer in-charge of Social Change and Behavior Communication (SBCC), Kwakye Isaac to resolve the perception of the residents yet some still believe the insecticides used by the organization in its spraying activities are causing the poultry lice to invade their premises.
The District Operations Officer assured the public that his outfit only uses World Health Organization (WHO)-approved insecticides, hence described the claims as false and unfounded.
Outlining their achievement of this season, Mr Samuel Gbedi said about 216 communities in the Wa West District benefited from this season exercise, in which 71, 799 rooms were sprayed representing 95% of the targeted 74,962 rooms.
Wa West District Disease Control Officer of AGAMAL, Kaaih Edward also expressed serious concerns about 21 communities that were not sprayed by AGAMAL due to some issues.
He however urged the general public to change their attitude towards the fight against malaria.
