Pognaa Amamata Mumuni, the queenmother of Duori a suburb of Wa in the Wala Traditional Area, has admonished parents to always engage their children in conversations to advise them against illicit behaviours.
She said children are predisposed to influence by their peers but that if they receive advice from their parents it will be difficult for their peers to influence them.
Pognaa Mumuni, who is also the Wa Municipal Girl Child Coordinator of the Ghana Education Service, gave the admonishment in an interview with Info Radio in Wa.
She said fathers should not leave the girl children for only their mothers to train.
The queenmother observed that girls who engage in illicit activities such as fornication will be predisposed to teenage pregnancy and other sexually transmitted diseases which can affect their education and development.
Pognaa Mumuni also urged parents to take much interest in the education of their children and to visit them at school regularly.
She also raised concerns about the attitude of some "Camboo" - tricycle - drivers who use their Camboos to carry school girls to camp in other communities which is affecting their education and said anyone caught in that act will be dealt with severely.
