Six basic schools in the Jirapa, Sissala East and Lambussie districts have taken delivery of a total of 479 dual desks from ActionAid Ghana (AAG) to help solve the furniture challenges and enhance academic activities in those schools.
The beneficiary schools are: Nindor-Wala Basic School and Ul-Kpong Junior High School in the Jirapa Municipality; Suke Primary School and Piina Junior High School in the Lambussie District, and Chalu "A" and "B" Basic Schools in Sissala East Municipality.
The intervention, which formed part of AAG’s child sponsorship programme in some schools in the three districts through donor support, would benefit 958 children in the three districts.
Speaking at a brief event in Jirapa to hand over the furniture, Mr John Nkaw, the Country Director of AAG, noted that the NGO was committed to enhancing quality and inclusive education and improving learning outcomes for pupils in Ghana.
“This support by ActionAid Ghana is a testament to our commitment to enhancing quality and inclusive education,” he stated.
Mr. Mr Huudu Kunaateh, the Jirapa Municipal Director of Education, expressed gratitude to ActionAid Ghana and its partners for their contentious support of the education sector in the municipality.
He said despite the efforts of the municipal education directorate to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning to thrive, inadequate furniture had been a major setback to those efforts.
Mr Alexander Boore, the Head Teacher of the Ul-Kpong Primary School, gave the assurance that they would ensure the furniture was put to good use.
