8 Women File for MMDCE positions in UWR


As the appointment process for the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) commences in earnest, eight females have filed to be considered for these positions in five districts and municipalities in the Upper West Region.

 

They were: Mary Haruna and Millicent Zuuri in the Nadowli-Kaleo District; Mary Zimaal and Cecilia Soyelleh, Lawra Municipal; Pognaa Cecilia Tier, Nandom Municipal; Mercy Bisunkaana Nyame and Helen Tanlugu, Sissala East Municipal; and Basi Braimah Mumuni was contesting for the Sissala West DCE slot.


That formed part of a total of 168 people in the region who had filed to be considered for the MMDCE positions across the eleven districts and municipalities in the region.

 

In the Wa East district, 17 people had filed to contest the DCE position; Lambussie District, eleven; Nadowli-Kaleo District, 16 and Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District, 18.

 

The rest were: Jirapa Municipal, 13; Wa West District, 21; Lawra Municipal, 15; Nandom Municipal, 19; Sissala East Municipal, eleven; Wa Municipal, eleven; and Sissala West District, 16.

 

Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing (Esq), the Upper West Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who revealed this to Info Radio in Wa, indicated that the party had scheduled 20th to 26th January 2025 for vetting of the aspirants in the region.

 

He cautioned that aspirants who reported later than the scheduled closing time of registration for the interview on each of the days would not be allowed to participate in the interview.

 

Meanwhile, some of the female aspirants in the region had indicated their resolve to work hard for the development of their respective districts and municipalities if they were given the nod.


Madam Millicent Zuuri, an aspirant in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, said empowerment of the youth in the district through skills training and education would be a major priority to her if given the opportunity.


“The development of the district is dear to my heart. Past DCEs have done their part, so I am joining this race to take the development of the district to a higher level if I am considered”, she stated. 


Madam Zuuri, who was currently the Assembly Member for Samatigu Electoral Area, added that she would complement the efforts of the President and his Vice to develop the Nadowli-Kaleo District if appointed the DCE for the district.


In the Lawra Municipality, Madam Mary Zimaal, a DCE aspirant, said she would collaborate with the Assembly Members in the municipality to promote education and training of the youth in the area and for the general development of the municipality.
