The Upper West Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended and convicted a 20-year-old man involved in a series of motorbike robberies Wa, the regional capital of the Upper West Region..
Mr. Nawaf Abdulai was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Wa Circuit Court on April 7, 2025, after being found guilty of robbing two victims of their motorbikes on March 6, 2025. Abdulai, alongside an accomplice, Awal Abass, who remains at large, orchestrated the thefts involving a Haojue and a Luojia motorbike, identified by their registration numbers M-21-449 UW and M-17-4607 UW, respectively.
The timely intervention of law enforcement played a crucial role in this case. Following reports of the robbery, the police swiftly responded, resulting in Abdulai's arrest at his residence just two days later, on March 8. During questioning, he confessed to the crimes, paving the way for his prosecution at the Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo.
The sentencing is seen as a strong message to would-be offenders, emphasizing the commitment of the judicial system to combat robbery and enhance public safety in the region. "This decision brings closure to the victims and serves as a warning to others who may consider engaging in similar criminal activities," stated a spokesperson from the police department.
