The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region has received applications from one hundred and Sixty Eight (168) party members across the eleven districts and municipalities in the Upper West Region for the positions of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). The news was announced by Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Regional Secretary for the NDC, during an interview with Info Radio on Wednesday afternoon.
The influx of applications follows the recent opening of nominations for the MMDCE positions by the new NDC government. Lawyer Puozuing noted that the Wa West District emerged as the area with the highest number of applicants, totaling twenty-one (21), closely followed by the Daffiama/Busie/Issa District, which recorded Eighteen (18) applicants.
To ensure a thorough selection process, the NDC has set the dates for the vetting of candidates from January 20th to January 26th. The regional secretary has emphasized the importance of punctuality during the scheduled interviews, urging all applicants to adhere strictly to their designated times. “Any delay may result in outright disqualification,” he warned.
The vetting committee, according to Lawyer Charles Lwanga, will execute a rigorous assessment of each applicant based on qualifications, competencies, party membership criteria, and their ability to support the president and the NDC in fulfilling its campaign promises of national renewal and progress.
Once the vetting process is complete, the committee will select three qualified candidates from each district, whose names will be forwarded to the president for final appointment. This streamlined approach aims to ensure that the most capable individuals are chosen to lead at the local level, thereby strengthening the party’s governance strategy in the region.
The coming weeks will reveal how these candidates measure up in the vetting process, ultimately determining the future leadership landscape of the region.
