11-year-old Founder of KIMs Learning Sessions donates cement to Bahass Foundation for mental home construction

Eleven-year-old Kieran Iqbal Mwinekumo, Founder of KIMs Learning Sessions (KLS), has donated five bags of cement to the Bahass Foundation, a mental health advocacy and rehabilitation organization, towards the construction of a home for the mentally challenged in Wa in the Upper West Region.

The donation, made over the weekend in commemoration of World Mental Health Day (October 10), fulfils a pledge Kieran made to support the foundation after hosting its CEO, Mr Elyasu Yussif Baba, on a radio program a few weeks ago.

During the radio discussion, the Bahass Foundation CEO appealed to the public for support in building a rehabilitation home for mentally ill persons, prompting Kieran to commit to contributing to the project.

True to his word, the young founder provided the cement to aid the construction of the much-needed facility, which is aimed at improving the care and rehabilitation of the mentally challenged in the region.

Speaking about his donation, Kieran noted that mental health is an often overlooked issue in society, and he felt compelled to support the Bahass Foundation’s efforts in providing care for the mentally ill.

“I believe that everyone deserves care and support, especially those who are mentally challenged. I am happy to contribute to the building of a rehabilitation home that will help them recover and live better lives,” Kieran said.

The Bahass Foundation has been at the forefront of mental health advocacy in the Upper West Region, offering vital services such as bathing, clothing, feeding, and housing mentally challenged individuals.

The foundation recently embarked on an initiative to build a proper rehabilitation home to offer more structured care and support for mentally ill individuals, and Kieran’s contribution serves as a boost to the project.

The facility, once completed, will provide a safe and caring environment for the mentally challenged to receive treatment and undergo rehabilitation.

Receiving the bags of cement, the foundation’s CEO, Mr Elyasu Yussif Baba, expressed gratitude to the young boy for the donation as he emphasized the implication of the gesture coming from such a young person.

“Kieran is just a small boy with good intentions. His kindness is truly inspiring. This shows that, when raised well, children can make groundbreaking impacts within society,” Mr Baba said.

Kieran, at the age of 10, founded KIMs Learning Sessions, a rural-focused initiative that teaches children in underprivileged communities essential literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.

The program also incorporates training on climate change adaptation and mitigation, aiming to equip rural children with a diverse skill set for the future.

As Kieran continues to lead KIMs Learning Sessions and support causes like mental health advocacy, his efforts serve as a powerful example of how young people can contribute to building stronger, more compassionate communities.
